GeForce 9600GT: Best Middle Class GPU

GeForce 9600GT: Best Middle Class GPUThese days PC games are too demanding in terms of RAM, CPU and especially video cards since DX10 appeared. If you want to play PC games at high resolution with everything on max then you have to spent around $500 for the graphics card alone.

Most people might have one of the latest graphic solutions from Nvidia or AMD/ATI which will serve them well for a year or so, but the new games will increasingly make you regret spending so much money. So what if you only have $200 to spend and are looking for other options? Well, the introduction of the DX-10 compatible Nvidia 8600 GT disappointed many.

It was only slightly faster than its predecessor and really offered nothing more. Sure, it supported DX10, but that doesn’t really mean much as it doesn’t have the horsepower to run any such games properly even if it has the technology to render them. Instead, many started to look at the 8800GT.

However, now the 9600GT is out, and not only is it more than twice the speed of the 8600 GT, but it’s also very close in terms of performance to the 8800GT/GTS. According to BONUS LEVEL 9600GT uses even more updated code.

While the new 8800GT and GTS cards use the fairly recent G92 based core, the new 9600GT offers an even more updated core code named G94. The card comes with 512MB of GDDR3 running on a 256-bit bus which is also seen on the 8800GT.

Thankfully, Nvidia managed to regain their lost reputation with PC video cards at an affordable price and with a performance that can match some of the high-end cards.
