Plasma Or LCD?
When buying a TV set, a question often comes to mind: plasma or LCD?
To make the right choice you need to compare their advantages and disadvantages.
Both plasma and LCD panels look alike, but they are similar only in their thin profiles and flat screens. In plasma screens a matrix of tiny gas plasma cells is used. It is charged by precise electrical voltages to create an image. Meanwhile, in LCD crystal displays liquid crystal pushed in the space between two glass plates. Pictures are produced by varying the electrical charge amount applied to the crystals.
Plasma TV sets have a stronger front glass than LCDs. They provide good picture quality with freedom from motion blur and have the widest viewing angle. Plasma TV sets offer the best overall contrast ratio, and no image retention.
Plasmas have some disadvantages: they are heavier than LCD sets and power consumption is higher than that of LCDs.
LCD hd televisions have high brightness, and no burn-in. LCD screens range from 19-70 inches. These TV sets do not consume much power. Disadvantages of LCD sets are vertical off-axis image quality, poor motion resolution with 60 Hz and 120 Hz models, and low contrast ratios with low-end models.
The best brands for LCD and Plasma TVs are JVC, LG, Pioneer, Philips, Samsung, Sony, and Sharp.
