Some Video Cell Phones By Nokia
I’m sure there are some of you out there who are interested in capturing high-quality video in a compact device. In that case one option you should strongly consider is a video cell phone made by none other than Nokia.
The Finnish company, which sells countless millions of mobile phones worldwide each year, is known for manufacturing high-quality headsets to meet any budget. Even the most simplistic phones manufactured by the company by today’s standards with an inch-wide grayscale screen and simplistic menus, like the Shorty, have excellent sound and are highly affordable.
Nokia’s video cell phones, needless to say, are among the best on the market. Some may argue that the models they have offered in the last few years are indeed unrivaled in terms of image quality and ease of use.
The Nokia N95 is the company’s flagship smartphone and offers a plethora of entertainment features, like superb video and audio playback, GPS support, and sophisticated personal organizing software. It has a super-bright display with 16M colors measuring 240 x 320 pixels, which is certainly necessary to support the photo and video capabilities. The lens offered on this phone is by Carl Zeiss, and the camera uses a 5.0 megapixel CMOS sensor. Basically, you’re capable of taking stunning images that can rival those taken by many point and shoot digital cameras, despite the seemingly low megapixel count.
The N95 can shoot video at 640×480 with VGA resolution at either 15 or, if you want the highest quality possible, 30 frames per second. There’s also an 8x digital zoom while you’re shooting. It even includes video editing software. Footage is stored on a microSD card. Mobile-review.com posted some samples on its Web site. In their review they mentioned that the video clips are good enough for a mobile device and as of today remain unrivaled. Can you do better than that?
Believe it or not you can. A few years back Nokia introduced the N93, which is still considered by many to be the best video cell phone on the market. This smartphone has a clamshell design, but it looks unlike any other phone available. The screen, which has only a 256,000 pixel resolution, can actually pivot and rotate much like one you would see on a camcorder, so you can shoot footage from various perspectives. That accounts for its bulky size and weight at 180 grams.
For storage the N93 makes use of a miniSD memory card that can be hot-swapped. The lens is also by Carl Zeiss but unlike the N95 it has a 3x optical zoom. The sensor is 3.2 megapixels and can take stills with a high resolution of 2048×1536 pixels. Typical of a Nokia phone construction is very solid. For video playback both PAL and NTSC standards are supported with screen ratios of 16:9 or 4:3. Video is captured also at 640×480 with VGA resolution and saved as MPEG-4 files with DVD-like quality. Many of these features were carried over to the newer N93i, which has a more streamlined, elegant look to it. But keep in mind that this phone is not as thin as a razor cell phone by any means.
All three video cell phones are available online and cost anywhere between $450-700, depending on the site. On average the N95 will run around $500, whereas the N93 and N93i will be a bit pricier. Nevertheless, if you want a pocket-sized device that takes great video footage, strongly consider these models.
