Nokia Introduces An Exercise Phone
The geniuses of Nokia have done it again. They’ve invented a phone that is meant for people with an active lifestyle.
The all-new Nokia N79 smartphone can track your heart beat while you are exercising with a heart monitor that is built-in. A special devise that comes with the phone attaches to the chest of the athlete and the phone’s installed software does the tracking. Register Hardware has more:
The heart-rate monitor clips onto an adjustable strap which you tighten around your chest. You’ll need to wet the inside of the strap before you put it on to ensure good electrical contact – we tried it without doing this at first and it didn’t work. The strap’s made of comfortable fabric and it’s easy to forget it’s on after a while. It’s washable too, which is just as well. The battery promises to run for 150 hours of workout and while there’s no on-off switch, it automatically fires up when it detects your pulse and switches itself off when you remove it.
When exercising you simply wear the phone around your upper arm using a special band that ships with the product. The band fastens using Velcro.
The Nokia N79 also includes special GPS software which it labels Sports Tracker which can show your running (or walking) pace, the distance you have been running, and even your heart rate. All that information is stored in a built-in database so you can track how your fitness trainings has been progressing.
Naturally as should be expected from Nokia smartphones the N79 also serves very well as a music cell phone. The 3.5mm audio jack allows you to use headphones other than the ones included. You can select your favorite MP3s without missing a beat and can even change stations on the built-in FM radio.
Store thousands of songs on an 8GB MicroSD card and start your workout. Other features include a built-in 5 megapixel camera and video file playback. Nokia claims that the battery’s standby time is 400 hours, but you can talk continuously for only 3.5 hours before needing to recharge.
