HTC Touch Diamond

HTC Touch DiamondWhen Apple introduced the iPhone at the beginning of 2007, it was rightly accepted as an innovation that translated into successful sales. However, it also meant that others would follow their example and try to create their own new smartphone, and so the iPhone might soon face strong competition from the HTC Touch Diamond.

Some are going so far as to call this device an “iPhone killer.” In terms of design, the new smartphone definitely has some similarities to the iPhone, but the HTC Diamond looks and feels more stylish. Specifications are satisfying as well, with a large 2.8 inch VGA display (640×480 pixel resolution), Quadband GSM/GPRS/Edge and UMTS/HSDPA, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0, 3.2megapixel camera with autofocus, extra VGA camera in the front for video telephony, Qualcomm 528 Mhz CPU, 4 GB of internal memory plus a MicroSD slot, FM Radio and an accelerometer sensor (like the iPhone’s).

Indeed, there’s no doubt that the HTC Diamond is full of features which are available through a new TouchFLO 3D interface which gives a cool effect. Sure, the surface is very sensitive to fingerprints, but there is a solution for that as well, as Phone Magazine reports.

There’s no denying that HTC’s Touch Diamond is going to be a real fingerprint-magnet, but the company doesn’t expect us all to wear white cotton gloves when we carry the smartphone. Instead they’re surprisingly proud of the Touch Diamond’s slip-case. It’s lined with a microfibre-style material that they claim will clean both sides of the handset whenever it’s put in and taken out.

Engadget reports what is included in the box.

A charger, headset, USB cable, a manual or two, and the software. The charger appears to be a universal job with a swappable plug for travel, and the headset a typical example of an HTC pack-in — albeit with a dash of fun and angular design.
