BlackBerry Is Getting Bold
The word “blackberry” these days is more synonymous with smart phones aimed at business professionals rather than with a kind of aggregate fruit. Needless to say, BlackBerry users will be ecstatic when they get their calloused thumbs tapping on the new BlackBerry Bold 9000 made by Research In Motion (RIM).
The BlackBerry Bold 9000 has a few things going for it that will make it stand out above remaining BlackBerry phones certainly as well as other cell phones. First off, the Bold 9000 is a quad-band GSM phone, so it can be used worldwide, that also has tri-band 3G network support, meaning that it is among the most advanced mobile phones available today connectivity wise. You also have WiFi support, meaning Internet access from potentially anywhere, as well as the handy GPS, always useful when you’re roaming the streets of Chicago late for a meeting clueless and lost, with maps already built in.
As can be expected you also have a four-row full QWERTY keypad, making the BlackBerry Bold 9000 a breeze to use when sending text messages. The dimensions are 4.49 high x 2.6 wide x 0.59 deep, and it weighs less than 5 ounces. The phone is black with a polished chrome edge.
With the BlackBerry Bold 9000 you have up to 8GB of memory on a microSD card, which incidentally is hot-swappable. But don’t plan on storing a plethora of photos taken with the measly 2 megapixel camera. The BlackBerry has never been a performer in the realm of photography, and this phone is no exception to the rule.
However, the BlackBerry Bold 9000 is also a very suitable video cell phone with its 2.6 inch screen supporting 65K colors and a 480 x 320 pixel resolution. It offers DivX and XviD support for your favorite movies, not to mention MP4 and WMV support. GSMArena had this to say:
Watching videos on the BlackBerry Bold 9000 is a really nice experience. The large landscape screen and its great picture quality are a great start and the good variety of supported codecs makes it all the better.
Naturally you can also play MP3 files to your heart’s content. You’ll be pleased to know that the sound quality of the BlackBerry Bold 9000 is superb, which is to be expected anyway.
Seems like RIM has fully realized that the bolder it makes its BlackBerry smart phones, the better.
