CES 2008: Philips Eco TV

CES 2008: Philips Eco TVEco-friendly solutions are becoming more and more popular these days and the CES 2008 is one of the places where green electronics are being presented. Among Philips flat LCD TV products, one was Philips’ Eco TV, which has many power-saving features to make it the first eco-friendly TV in the world.

Compared with other LCD hd televisions, it uses 30 watts less power, but sports a 42″ flat-panel screen with a resolution of 1080p. It will cost around $1300 and supports HDTV. According to Gadget and Gizmos it boasts good picture quality as well.

The Philips Eco TV doesn’t sacrifice in quality, either. The 42 inch HD display shows crisp images and using one of the eco features will actually improve the display even further in dim lighting sequences.

On the other hand CNET reports that Philips didn’t include some of its high-end features.

The 42PFL5630D lacks the company’s patented Ambilight technology, which is actually another power-saving perk since those lights draw more juice. It also lacks the high-end features such as the 120Hz technology found on its more-expensive brethren–this is strictly a mass-market TV, and one that should be more satisfying to environmentalists than any large-screen flat-panel we’ve seen so far.
