Violin Robot From Toyota

Violin Robot From ToyotaWe all know that Toyota is more than successful in the world of cars, beating such leaders as General Motors. What you might not know is what other areas Toyota is engaged in. Well, you’ll be surprised to know that Toyota is successfully entering into the world of robotics.

To be precise, robots that not only move, but are also able to play musical instruments such as the violin, one of the most difficult instruments to learn. Toyota’s robots look like humans with two legs, eyes and hands that can actually get a violin to make music. LUXUO reports that the violin robot plays Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance very efficiently.

The violin-playing robot responds to voice commands and boasts of advanced face recognition. The new robot plays Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance on the violin very efficiently. Toyota hopes to see it and other Toyota Partner Robots on sale in the early 2010.

At first I thought that sounds were initially programmed in, but according to TechEblog the robot features 17 flexible joints and mechanical fingers.

In terms of technology this robot seems quite innovative, but I personally wouldn’t like robots to replace real human players.
