FreeCharge Weza: Eco-Friendly Charger
Freeplay is a manufacturer of products which produce clean energy using nature’s resources. For example, the English company has created a portable charger which uses energy from humans.
After plugging in the gadget to charge, manually pushing up and down on a pedal generates energy. The Weza is just perfect for regions such as Africa where you’ll not find energy as common as in the US. WIRED reports on the device and why low income families even in the developed world might be interested in it.
As expected, the Weza is being promoted as an agent of impact in communities that don’t have access to affordable power, as seen in the video below. You could be a cynic and say that placing the Weza in a tough, impoverished area will help product development and looks good on the PR front, but the truth is that Freeplay didn’t need to send it to Africa to figure out how it would perform — the market for affordable power is large enough here for it to be profitable.
TheWeza’s official website reports more details.
Green energy – a sustainable energy solution that’s built to last. The power mechanism is tested to 500 000 input cycles. Absolute independence from all conventional power sources – no grid or batteries required ever.
Watch the video below to see it at work….in Africa.
