Modu: Lightest Phone In The World

Modu: Lightest Phone In The WorldA few days ago I wrote that concepts are becoming habitual in the world of cellular phones and here’s yet another example. Modu is the lightest phone in the world. It’s hard to believe that a phone could weight only 40 grams and the fact that it does is incredible.

It’s not a surprise that Wired Blog Network reports that Modu is going to figure among the Guiness World Records.

Modu has been awarded the Guinness World Record for the world’s lightest cell phone. Modu checks in at an incredible 1.41oz (or 40.1g).

You might wonder how this small phone can have any functionality at all compared to other phones, but jackets that will come with it will offer additional features although it still lacks some important features such as a cell phone antenna. Digital Life explains more about these “jackets.”

The jackets that will come with the Modu look like mobile phones, with standard numeric keypads and other features like cameras. But they lack the antenna and chips that communicate with a wireless network, and this is where the Modu comes in – it pops into a slot, turning the jacket into a fully functional phone.

Modu founder Dov Moran said in an interview that the Italian carrier is excited about the concept because it can make mobile phones more like fashion, tempting consumer to update their looks every few months.

“This allows you to make a summer collection and a winter collection,” Moran said.

Modu video cell phone is still a concept, but is likely to find great success if and when it sees the light of day.
