Kensington WiFi Finder Plus

Kensington WiFi Finder PlusWireless Wi-Fi technology is very popular. It allows people to connect their computers or mobile phones to the Internet without cables, hubs or switchers.

However, if you want to connect your phone to the Internet via WiFi then you need to know if there is a WiFi connection in the area. To make the process of finding a WiFi connection easier, Kensington offers WiFi Finder Plus.

As you see in the picture above, WiFi Finder Plus is a small and handy device which can be attached to your laptop. All you need to do is to press the chrome button and WiFi finder will automatically search for nearby 802.11b/802.11g networks.

The scan lasts for five seconds and four green LED’s shows the strength of the signal. If all green LED’s light up then it means the signal is strong and if there is no network then the LED at the bottom will light up in red.

According to The Gadgeteer you can use WiFi Finder Plus to find the direction of signal as well.

To do this, you press and hold the scan button. Once it locks on to a signal, it will then display the strength until you let go of the button. Moving around will allow you to notice increasing and decreasing signal strength.

As BizTech Magazine reports it has some disadvantages.

The real downfall is the product’s battery. The product is sensitive to movement and activates accidentally. This causes the batteries to die quickly. The WiFi Finder Plus uses lithium batteries, which cost more and are sometimes difficult to find.

The Kensington WiFi Finder Plus costs $25.
